About Halloween in Transylvania
Halloween in Transylvania (HiT) is a journey through the cultural heritage and mysterious land of Transylvania: castles full of history, breathtaking landscapes, delicious traditional food, promenades through Romania’s most beautiful towns, and parties with your fantastic international friends.
The first edition took place back in 2011 and due to its success, the event has been organised since then annually, growing every year and becoming ESN Romania’s trademark, a must for every international student coming to Romania. The event changed in size and format from an edition to another, driven by the desire to improve it and make it as memorable as possible for each participant.
The latest edition took place this year, between the 26-29th of October, having more than 800 participants, including Erasmus students and ESN volunteers.
Halloween in Transylvania with the spark of our volunteers
The great journey started with the visit to Cantacuzino Castle, which was the main point for filming the Wednsesday series, known now also as Nevermore Academy. In this way, we started this amazing experience by entering and observing the surroundings of the great castle, inside and out. The main location of the event was Brașov, right in the heart of our spooky region, Transylvania. For the first night, we prepared our costumes for the party, Halloween in the 80’s. In the next few days, we participated at the thematic activities, such as Pumpkin Carving, Halloween Tote Bag Painting, Friendship Bracelet Making, Romanian Childhood Games, Horror Movie Screening and so on. In addition to that, it was a great opportunity for all the participants to bond and get to know each other better. The Erasmus Generation Summit took place in Râșnov, another city near to Brașov, which had the chance to be explored by all the participants.
The highlight of the event was the Flag Parade that took place on Saturday in the city centre of Braşov, bringing together, united in diversity, international students from all over Europe. At short time after we all gather in the main square of Brașov, the participants had the chance to explore the city through a treasure hunt, engaging them in activities and allowing them to discover the city in a fun way. The last night of the event ended with a thematic Halloween Party, right in the heart of Transylvania. Last but not least, on our way back to Bucharest we also visited the famous Peleș Castle. We encouraged our Erasmus students to discover its beauty and greatness.
During these four days, the participants got to explore the legendary realm of Bram Stoker’s Dracula: Transylvania. Beyond myths and legends, they got the chance to discover one of the most picturesque regions in Romania, with castles and breathtaking landscapes, with unique traditions and delicious cuisine. Besides the culture, Halloween in Transylvania brings back the mission we all stand for in ESN (Erasmus Student Network), which is enrichment of society through international students.
