The University of Bucharest is the main academic center of Bucharest and was founded in 1864 by Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Titu Maiorescu University
TITU MAIORESCU University is composed of 9 faculties: Psychology, Law (with premises in Bucharest and Tg. Jiu), Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Human, Social and Political Science, Economic Sciences (with premises in Bucharest and Tg. Jiu) and Computer Science. Romanian-American University
The Romanian-American University was founded in 1991 and its mission is to promote the educational values of the American academic education given the rich traditions of the Romanian education. The initiative of the establishment of the Romanian-American University belonged to the late Prof. Ion Smedescu, Ph.D., founder of the Romanian-American University and president of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture.

"Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism
The “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning in Bucharest is the oldest and most important academic institution in this field in Romania. It continues a long tradition of local architectural higher education, the foundation of which is closely linked with the rise of modern Romania and the setting of its new institutional structure and culture, during the second half of the 19th century.

National University of Theatre and Film "I.L. Caragiale"
1950 saw the founding of both the Institute for Film and the Institute for Theatre I. L. Caragiale (named after the classic Romanian playwright). In 1954, the two institutions merged into the Institute of Theatre and Film I.L. Caragiale. The institute functioned under this name until 1990, when it became the Academy of Theatre and Film – the only such school in Romania with a ranking equal to that of a university, as well as international recognition.

Spiru Haret University
Spiru Haret University (USH) is the biggest private university in Romania. USH Bucharest is part of Romania de Maine Foundation - founded on the 19th of January 1991 by Professor Aurelian Gh. Bondrea within a social and political context open to the democratic changes in Romania. The name assigned to the university is intrinsically linked to Spiru Haret personality. Founder of the national modern education, Spiru Haret is the promoter of a large social and cultural movement with national echoes.

National University of Music Bucharest
National University of Music Bucharest is a Romanian professional institution of higher education, research and music creation, founded in 1864. Established as a school of music and reorganized as an academy in 1931, it has functioned as a public university since 2001. It also offered training in drama until 1950, when this function was taken over by two institutes which were later reunited as the UNATC.
