Escape to Vama Veche is ESN Romania’s national event, taking place in the spring semester. The event brings together both international students and ESN volunteers at the seaside, in Vama Veche. The event is held in conjunction with the beginning of the summer season, around the 1st of May, each year.

The first edition took place in 2012 and since then, 4 other editions have been organised. Besides enjoying the vibes of Vama Veche, ESN Romania makes sure that through this event the participants make the most of their experience and creates an environment that brings together hundreds of students from all over the world. The latest edition, in 2018, gathered around 350 international students in the hippie Romanian sea resort.

Vama Veche is a place where many friendships have been created and memories made. With many stories to tell, the participants from every edition of Escape to Vama Veche return home with life-long memories from ESN Romania’s national event. The activities include a sports tournament organised on the beach, a flag parade along the cost, followed by a colour battle. The highlight of the event, an activity that brought ESN Romania the Environment Star Award during AGM Thessaloniki 2019, is a greening action organised in partnership with Let’s Do It, Romania. A visit to Constanta is also organised, a city with a great history that goes back to the 7th century B.C. which the participants can discover through a guided tour. Besides these, the participants get the chance to explore as well the nightlife of Vama Veche, or to enjoy the calmness of the seaside at dawn around a campfire with the sound of a guitar in the background.
